The Adoption of Scrum
The scrum framework is heuristic in nature, means it acknowledge the fact that a team doesn't know everything at the beginning of a project and learning evolves gradually during a project. It is fabricated in a way where teams keep refreshing their priorities according to the end-user requirement and continuously adjust to the fluctuating condition.
Scrum methodology is used for managing knowledge work, often with an emphasis on software development. Teams of up to 9 members, but minimum of 3 will break their work into actions that timed as sprints. Most sprints are 2 weeks in length, but there are some which may last for a month. Then daily 15 minute meetings, called daily scrums, create accountability by tracking personal progress.
Advantages for the adoption of scrum
- It creates a system of transparency: Daily scrums do more than keep workers accountable to their work. It is also a way for a company to maintain their transparency with their clients.
-It offers motivation on multiple levels: Teams are motivated using this methodology because there defined deadlines and expectations to meet. Individuals are motivated by the rewards offered (or at least should be offered) for meeting or exceeding expectations. This system creates a stronger set of knowledge work that can be presented to the client.
- It provides continuous feedback: Because this methodology requires daily check-in for progress reports, there is always feedback offered at the team and individual level. This helps to make the project better in a long run.
Disadvantages for the adoption of scrum
-It does not care about the final project deadline: The scrum methodology uses personal deadlines to create a specific amount of work. It does not take the project deadline into account. The only real requirement is that each person or team meet expectation.
-It requires a team environment: Individual can follow the concepts of scrum methodology but, this format is designed to work with a team of at least 3 people, its only suitable for small teams as well. If there are 10+ people involved it does not work well.
-It requires experience: Feedback can be provided to teams and individuals through relevant experience only. If individual or team that offers feedback is not experienced in the work being done, then entire system breaks down.
